If this sounds familiar

Knows it's about plants. Doesn't know what to write.

P4 is the first year Science asks for written explanations, not just multiple choice. Children who can talk about a topic confidently freeze when asked to write "Explain why" or "Describe what happens" — because nobody's taught them the answer structure markers want.

"I told my friend the answer. Why is writing it wrong?"

We teach the C–E–R sentence frame (Claim · Evidence · Reasoning) from P4 onwards — the structured-answer habit that every PSLE OEQ rewards. Drilled weekly until writing the answer feels as natural as saying it.

What we cover.

Every topic in the Primary 4 Science syllabus, taught in the order that builds skill. Refreshed yearly against the latest SEAB exam reports.

·
Diversity — living & non-living
Classifying living things, identifying parts of plants and animals, properties of materials.
·
Cycles — life cycles
Life cycles of plants, mammals, insects (intro). Common reproduction terms.
·
Cycles — matter (intro)
Three states of matter, basic state-change vocabulary.
·
Systems — body parts
Major systems at intro level — digestive, skeletal.
·
Energy — light, heat, sound (intro)
Sources, transmission basics, simple shadow / reflection ideas.
·
Interactions — living things
Basic food chains, environmental needs.
·
Vocabulary precision
Exact PSLE-style words taught from the start. Habits formed at P4 are habits at P6.
·
Structured answers
Even at P4, we drill the Claim → Evidence skeleton on simple open-ended questions.
How we teach it

Methodology.

The methods we teach with — applied across the term, calibrated to where each student needs them most.

01
Concept-first, not memorise-first
Memory works in P4. By P5 it doesn't. Start with concepts and the memorising looks after itself.
02
Precise vocabulary
Drilled in every lesson. 'Heat moves' isn't enough — 'heat is transferred' is. Built into homework grading.
03
Diagrams done right
Cell, force, food-chain diagrams drawn to standard from the first week.
04
Weekly homework, reviewed in class
Homework given regularly and gone through in class — vague answers caught and reframed early.
05
Small classes (max 10)
P4 students need eyes on them while they work. Most P4 sections sit at 5–8.
06
Calibrated to the class
Pacing, examples and topic emphasis are tuned to the P4 cohort in front of us. Every class arrives with a different mix of strengths, gaps and pace — so each session pulls its weight rather than running from a fixed script.
07
Every WA tracked & teacher-monitored
Weekly Assignment results are logged against each child by topic, by week. Teachers review each student's progress weekly — not at term-end — so phrasing wobbles get caught and scheduled back in before they harden into habits.
Where students lose marks

Common pitfalls
& how we fix them.

Most lost marks are habit, not knowledge. We track them, name them, and drill them out.

!
Vague answers like 'because it does'
P4 teachers tend to be lenient. We hold answers to PSLE standard from week one.
!
Naming the part — but skipping its function
Students get the part name right but lose marks on the 'what does it do?' follow-up. Fix: every plant or digestive question paired with a function drill until the second sentence comes automatically.
!
Heat vs temperature — used as the same thing
Heat is energy that flows; temperature is the measure. Mixing them up costs marks every PSLE. Fix: drilled with concrete contrasts (ice in hot tea, bath water vs swimming pool) until the difference is second nature.
!
Assuming all metals are magnetic
Aluminium, copper, brass aren't magnetic — only iron, steel, nickel and cobalt. Students lose easy marks here every year. Fix: the four-metal rule memorised early, then tested against random objects every few weeks.
Sample technique

How we teach the P4 'why' question from week one.

P4 question: 'Why is iron used to make pots and pans?' Most P4 students answer 'because it is hard'. Worth 1 mark out of 2. Our students learn to add the why-the-property-matters: 'Iron is a good conductor of heat. It allows heat from the stove to be transferred quickly to the food, cooking the food evenly.' Two marks, every time. P4 is when the muscle is built. By P6 it's automatic.

Inside the lesson

What a typical lesson looks like.

No surprises. The structure is the same week to week — students settle in fast.

  1. 0–10 min · Recap of last week's most-confused topic.
  2. 10–30 min · Concept walkthrough with diagrams drawn live.
  3. 30–55 min · Vocabulary & structured-answer drill on today's topic.
  4. 55–80 min · Independent practice; teacher walks the room and corrects work where possible.
  5. 80–90 min · Common errors review; homework set.

FAQ

Common questions.

My child is in P4 — too early for Science tuition?
P4 is when the answer-structure habit is built. Starting later means re-doing the foundation while juggling new content.
Is your P4 Science aligned to the latest MOE syllabus?
Yes — refreshed yearly.
How big are the classes?
Max 10 — most P4 Science sections sit at 5–8.
Do you also offer P4 Math?
Yes — both run at the same centres, with schedules built to slot Math + Science back-to-back where possible. P4 Math. 10% off when you pair them.
Where are your P4 Science centres?
Free trial?
Yes — every new P4 student gets a real lesson free, then we send personalised feedback.
What time slots do you offer?
Weekday evenings and Saturday daytime, at both Bukit Batok and Yishun. WhatsApp us your preferred day/time and we'll come back with live availability.
How do I book a P4 Science trial?
WhatsApp 9181 7689.
Can my child catch up if they join mid-term?
Yes — we can arrange short 1-to-1 bridging sessions to fast-track new joiners up to where the current class is. Most students catch up in 2–3 sessions, then slot into the regular class without falling behind.
