In a previous article, we have mentioned that good time management can help youths manage stress. But how do we practice good time management? In this article we plan to discuss just that. For our young ones, there is just so much to do. They must spend most of their time on studies and yet on top of that, they may have CCAs to attend, own hobbies to enjoy and outings with friends to go to. It's no wonder that they might feel overwhelmed and stressed.
That’s where good time management comes in. When we plan our time well, we maximize productivity and efficiency. We can successfully prioritize our tasks, avoid procrastination, meet deadlines, and achieve our goals. This makes our commitments enjoyable and spares us the need to rush through tasks which is what causes us stress in the first place.
1) Prepare a Schedule or To-Do List
One of the best ways to manage our time is to create a schedule or a to-do list. A schedule outlines the activities you need to do and the time we allocate for each activity. A to-do list is a list of tasks that need to be completed. Both tools help us stay organized and focused, so we can avoid wasting time on unimportant activities.
2) Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize
Another important tip is to prioritize our tasks. Identify the most important tasks and complete them first. This ensures that we get the critical work done on time and reduces stress. Prioritizing also helps us avoid wasting time on low-priority tasks.
3) Say No
It's crucial to educate our young people about the power of saying no. Often, we may feel compelled to take on more responsibilities than we can manage, which can lead to stress. When we struggle to handle numerous tasks within a limited time frame, it becomes challenging to achieve success in any of them. By teaching our youths to set boundaries and say no to unnecessary tasks, we can help them focus on what truly matters and prevent them from feeling overstretched and exhausted.
4) Develop Good Sleeping Habits
Establishing healthy sleep patterns is extremely crucial. When we get enough sleep, we have more energy and focus to tackle the tasks at hand. This naturally results in greater productivity and efficiency, enabling us to accomplish more in less time. However, when we suffer from sleep deprivation, our productivity and efficiency decline, and we end up wasting more time on each task. This creates a vicious cycle, where we become even less prepared for the following day, leading to less sleep and further decreased productivity.
In summary, time management is essential for youth. By creating schedules, prioritizing tasks, learning to saying no and having good sleep habits, we can manage our time effectively and enjoy our leisure time. Learning this skill early on will very effectively help in minimizing stress that our youths face.
